Our It's Yoga Story

It's Yoga Brighton was born out of the magic of the 200hr Training Programme experienced at It's Yoga Firenze in Florence, Italy.

Having fallen in love with the unique approach, atmosphere and care an It's Yoga studio brings with it, it is our intention to Share the Love of the Practice in beautiful, vibrant Brighton.

'Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.' - Rainer Maria Rilke

After around a year of teaching as LoveLightYoga in Brighton, we finally opened our doors as It's Yoga Brighton in October 2017.

It's been a long journey with many ups and downs - but through it all, the practice has been with us - and we can't wait to share it with all of you!

Our Team

Lena Younes
Lena Younes
Facilitator / Co-Director
Born to German-Egyptian parents and having grown up in the Netherlands and Geneva, Switzerland, Lena has a background in Theatre and History. She was first introduced to yoga at the age of 15 as a way to build up strength while she pursued her first passions - theatre and music, specifically singing, which also began her love for breath and embodiment.

Yoga reappeared in her life during her PhD studies in Early Modern History in Ireland, where she began a regular Ashtanga practice. She completed her 200hr Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training at It's Yoga Firenze in 2014 while living in Tuscany, Italy, after which she made some radical life choices, which included letting go of her doctoral studies and focusing on practising and teaching yoga. She has since carried on with her It's Yoga 500hr training with Marie Russel and Michele Barocchi, leading to her becoming an IYI Rocket Trainer. She is also trained in Kids, Family and Yin Yoga, which she sees as great compliments to The Rocket.

Yoga played a huge part in helping her recover from chronic illness (Lyme Disease) and has transformed her life in so many ways.

Lena has been living in Sussex since early 2016 and after facilitating regular classes in Brighton for a year and a half co-founded, opened and directs It's Yoga Brighton in October 2017. She continues to practice, learn, heal and evolve every day - on the mat and off the mat.

"My purpose as a Rocket trainer and instructor is to be compassionate, authentic, grounded, inspired and patient. It is to stay connected to my breath and my feeling body as I create a nurturing environment which holds the space for transformation and growth on and off the mat, so that I may have a loving, supportive, knowledgeable and abundant It's Yoga family and community wherever I go."
Rachel McDermott
Rachel's yoga journey began nearly 20 years ago when she moved to London to go to University. She has practiced many different styles of yoga throughout the years - for her, yoga was always more then just exercise. She loved the way yoga connected her mind and body and gave her tools to have a more balanced life - physically and mentally.

Over the years, yoga has become her constant - it’s been there through good times and bad; changed her and grown with her.

In 2015 she left her career in events, where she had been a producer and director for 15 years, and fulfilled a life long ambition of becoming a yoga instructor.

Since qualifying as an Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher with It's Yoga International, she has also gained her training in pregnancy and postnatal yoga (with Sally Parks). This time of training was really special for her as she was also pregnant with her second son. Yoga was a huge part of both her pregnancies and birth experiences and then postnatally. The postnatal practice was very nurturing and a supportive way for her body to recover and, of course, a very special time to bond with her baby.

She has just moved to Brighton with her family after living in London for nearly 20 years. This new chapter is very exciting and she is very honoured to be teaching with It's Yoga Brighton.
Caro Glaser
Caro grew up in Germany and took her first Yoga class while studying at LMU in Munich. After that class she felt that Yoga moved something in her, and she gradually got hooked.

Years later, while travelling to South Africa, Caro discovered a small Yoga Studio (back then It’s Yoga Cape Town) - she stepped inside and from there her It’s Yoga Rocket took off.

She decided to shift her life around, signed up for the 200 hour Teacher Training and bought a ticket to San Francisco, USA in 2009.

After the teacher training (and, later, a Rocket Intensive) at It's Yoga San Francisco, she moved to Cape Town and started to share the love of the practice at It's Yoga Cape Town.

A couple of years (and lots of of It’s Yoga moments) down the line, Caro stumbled upon the It’s Yoga studio in Brighton, UK. There she completed her 302 Rocket Take off training and has been facilitating here ever since.

Caro's approach for her yoga sessions is that everyone can take something with them through a class. She feels a deep sense of gratitude for all the people that inspired (and inspire) her along the way - Larry Schultz, Marie Russel, Sarah Stone-Francisco, just to name a few.

"The purpose of my relationship to being a facilitator at It’s Yoga Brighton is to be present, authentic and kind, to share my knowledge with all beings in order to flourish and to have happiness, health and freedom."
Penny Lunn
Penny Lunn
Penny found yoga in 2014, shortly after graduating university and beginning a career in design. She rediscovered a physical and meditative connection to her body she had previously loved when practicing dance from a young age. Self-practicing a mix of styles, yoga became grounding and balancing when navigating her early twenties.

Her discovery of It’s Yoga Brighton came as she wanted to take her practice to the next level and be part of the Brighton yoga community. She immediately fell in love with Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, combining breath, bandhas, movement and drishti to find a more deeply flowing, moving practice, and with the intensity and pace of progress in The Rocket.

A few months later she began her 200hr training with the intention of deepening her practice, but left with the purpose of facilitating, inspired by Larry’s philosophy to empower others to find their inner teacher.

Most gratefully, she received the opportunity to facilitate at It’s Yoga Brighton, be part of the community and learn from the other inspiring facilitators.

Penny is excited to continue her journey with It’s Yoga, developing her teaching practice and training in The Rocket and Yin, to share her passion for these practices.

“My purpose as an It’s Yoga facilitator is to be helpful, patient, loving and joyful so that I inspire and aid others to discover the joy and transformational power of their practice, giving me a deeper connection to the practice, myself, the community and the world.”
It's Yoga Dog
Fëalin the Cockapoo (half Cocker Spaniel, half Poodle), was born in Dublin in 2012 and has met many amazing people and animals during her travels across Europe.

She's excited to welcome everyone who walks through the doors of It's Yoga Brighton - and available for snuggles on most days, before and after classes.

She loves meeting new people and has mastered Upward (Urdhva) and Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) - she's still working on the rest!
