It's Yoga Foundations

Our It's Yoga Story

It's Yoga Brighton was inspired largely by the co-directors' experience at It's Yoga Firenze in Florence, Italy, where they both completed their 200hr Teacher Training in 2014.

Having fallen in love with the unique approach, atmosphere and care an It's Yoga studio brings with it, they are now here to Share the Love of the Practice in beautiful, vibrant Brighton.

'Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.' - Rainer Maria Rilke

After around a year of teaching as LoveLightYoga in Brighton, we finally opened our doors as It's Yoga Brighton in October 2017.

It's been a long journey with many ups and downs - but through it all, the practice has been with us - and we can't wait to share it with all of you!

Our Team

Lena Younes
Lena Younes
Facilitator / Co-Director
Born to German-Egyptian parents and having grown up in the Netherlands and Geneva, Switzerland, Lena has a background in Theatre and History. She was first introduced to yoga at the age of 15 as a way to build up strength while she pursued her first passions - theatre and music, specifically singing, which also began her love for breath and embodiment.

Yoga reappeared in her life during her PhD studies in Early Modern History in Ireland, where she began a regular Ashtanga practice. She completed her 200hr Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training at It's Yoga Firenze in 2014 while living in Tuscany, Italy, after which she made some radical life choices, which included letting go of her doctoral studies and focusing on practising and teaching yoga. She has since carried on with her It's Yoga 500hr training with Marie Russel and Michele Barocchi, leading to her becoming an IYI Rocket Trainer. She is also trained in Kids, Family and Yin Yoga, which she sees as great compliments to The Rocket.

Yoga played a huge part in helping her recover from chronic illness (Lyme Disease) and has transformed her life in so many ways.

Lena has been living in Brighton since 2016 and after facilitating regular classes in Brighton for a year and a half co-founded, opened and directs It's Yoga Brighton in October 2017. She continues to practice, learn, heal and evolve every day - on the mat and off the mat.

"My purpose as a Rocket trainer and instructor is to be compassionate, authentic, grounded, inspired and patient. It is to stay connected to my breath and my feeling body as I create a nurturing environment which holds the space for transformation and growth on and off the mat, so that I may have a loving, supportive, knowledgeable and abundant It's Yoga family and community wherever I go."
Richard Batten
Richard Batten
Facilitator / Co-Director
Richard grew up in the Epping Forest, U.K and had been a seeker of higher wisdoms and healing from a young age. He went on to study philosophies from around the world up to PhD level, whilst cultivating a meditation and Qi Gong practice and travelling and living in both Ireland and Italy.

Whilst recovering from a chronic neck injury, Richard and yoga found one another in 2014 and from there he fell in love with the practice. In that same year he completed the It's Yoga 200hr Ashtanga Vinyasa training at It's Yoga Firenze and has never looked back.

Richard then continued his training into the 500hr level with It's Yoga International, is an IYI The Rocket® Trainer and co-Founder and co-Director of It's Yoga Brighton U.K.

He and can be found sharing what he loves, facilitating workshops, classes and trainings at the It's Yoga Brighton centre.

"The purpose of my relationship to It's Yoga Brighton is to be committed, inspired and in love, cultivating these qualities within myself and others through sharing the tools for transformation to my greatest and most loving expression. In this way, I have and perpetuate a life of Love, Abundance and Light"
Rachel McDermott
Rachel's yoga journey began nearly 20 years ago when she moved to London to go to University. She has practiced many different styles of yoga throughout the years - for her, yoga was always more then just exercise. She loved the way yoga connected her mind and body and gave her tools to have a more balanced life - physically and mentally.

Over the years, yoga has become her constant - it’s been there through good times and bad; changed her and grown with her.

In 2015 she left her career in events, where she had been a producer and director for 15 years, and fulfilled a life long ambition of becoming a yoga instructor.

Since qualifying as an Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher with It's Yoga International, she has also gained her training in pregnancy and postnatal yoga (with Sally Parks). This time of training was really special for her as she was also pregnant with her second son. Yoga was a huge part of both her pregnancies and birth experiences and then postnatally. The postnatal practice was very nurturing and a supportive way for her body to recover and, of course, a very special time to bond with her baby.

She has just moved to Brighton with her family after living in London for nearly 20 years. This new chapter is very exciting and she is very honoured to be teaching with It's Yoga Brighton.
It's Yoga Dog
Fëalin the Cockapoo (half Cocker Spaniel, half Poodle), was born in Dublin in 2012 and has met many amazing people and animals during her travels across Europe.

She's excited to welcome everyone who walks through the doors of It's Yoga Brighton - and available for snuggles on most days, before and after classes.

She loves meeting new people and has mastered Upward (Urdhva) and Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) - she's still working on the rest!
